Scott is responsible for leading the expansion of the energy efficiency business, deployment of energy management products and services, and development of strong energy analytics capabilities to serve customers.
With over 15 years in the energy industry, Scott brings an extensive breadth and depth of experience having held numerous leadership positions with several energy companies such as NiSource, AEP, Integrys Energy Services, and Solargenix Energy.
Scott holds a Master of Business Administration from Indiana University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. In addition, Scott is a LEED Accredited Professional.
Joel H. Jansen
Chief Operating Officer
Joel is responsible for the growth and profitability of our customer-centric, energy asset business – AEP OnSite Partners. Joel has over 20 years of experience managing energy asset investments.
Prior to returning to AEP in 2015, Joel led the non-regulated energy assets of Integrys Energy Group, Inc. for nearly ten years. In addition to the energy asset business, Joel had an active role leading the Risk, Pricing, and Supply functions for the marketing business of Integrys Energy Services, Inc. and was also the Interim President of Trillium CNG.
From 2000 to 2005, Joel worked in a number of roles for AEP Energy Services. These opportunities included the support of investments in wind and combined heat and power projects. Joel started his professional career as a Project Engineer with Primary Energy, Inc., an industrial project development subsidiary of NiSource, Inc., located in Merrillville, Indiana.
Joel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Economics from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Finance from The Ohio State University.
Managing Director of Business Development & Strategy
Dan is responsible for leading the AEP OnSite Partners business development team and helping the company grow its portfolio of customer-centric energy assets by helping customers manage their energy costs through the implementation of asset-based products and services.
With over 15 years in the energy industry, Dan brings an extensive breadth of knowledge and experience in various leadership roles in several regulated and non-regulated electric utility companies, including Integrys Energy Group (now WEC Energy Group), Integrys Energy Services, and Wisconsin Public Service Corporation. Dan started his career in corporate treasury and has held various positions with increasing responsibility in regulated renewable development, wholesale power marketing, competitive energy asset development, and generation dispatch strategy and analytics.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse.
Director, Valuation & Analytics
Michael is the Director of Valuation & Analytics. In this position, he is responsible for the pricing and financial modeling functions within AEP OnSite Partners.
Prior to being named to his current position in February 2018, Stauffer served as the Director, Market Risk Oversight since August 2012, where he was responsible for various risk management and compliance functions associated with AEP’s energy trading and marketing activities. Previously, Michael held positions in AEP Strategic Initiatives and Market Risk Oversight.
Before joining AEP in 2005, Michael spent two years at General Electric Power Systems where he trained customers on proper operation and maintenance of turbine control systems. He also spent over nine years in the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power Propulsion program.
Michael earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York – Regents College and a Master of Business Administration from Indiana University.
Manager of Account Management & Compliance
Marti serves as AEP OnSite Partners’ Manager of Account Management & Compliance, responsible for customer relationships, contract management and regulatory compliance for all AEP OnSite Partners’ assets.
Marti joined AEP OnSite Partners in 2017 as an Asset Manager with oversight over the financial performance and operations of AEP OnSite Partners’ assets. Marti has over 10 years in the energy industry with a focus in counterparty credit risk and various experiences in commercial banking and investment industry.
Marti holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from University of Nairobi and a Master’s in International Development Studies (Economics) from Ohio University.
Femi is responsible for leading the AEP Onsite Partners engineering team in providing technical support for project development, construction and operation. He has over 10 years of experience in energy efficiency, renewable energy and distributed generation technologies.
Prior to joining AEP Onsite Partners, Femi held technical roles at a concentrated solar firm, AEP Energy and Powell Industries. Throughout his career, Femi has worked on projects and technologies ranging from energy efficiency solutions to distributed generation projects including solar, energy storage and reciprocating engine solutions for municipalities, universities, and commercial and industrial customers.
Femi is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio and a Certified Energy Manager (CEM). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from University of Ibadan.
Director, Project Management & Operations
Jesse is responsible for leading AEP OnSite Partners’ Operations and Project Management teams. He is tasked with managing and optimizing their growing portfolio of customer-centric energy assets from the close of development activities through the construction and long-term operations phases. Jesse has 15 years of experience in the energy industry, with a strong focus on operations and maintenance of both renewable and conventional power generation assets.
Prior to joining AEP in July 2019, Jesse held various leadership and individual contributor roles with Terraform Power, SunEdison, Integrys Energy Services, and WPS Power Development where he gained experience related to the entire energy asset lifecycle from development and acquisition to decommissioning and divestiture.
Jesse started his career in 2004 as a Plant Engineer with WPS Power Development in Niagara Falls, New York. His roles and responsibilities evolved in step with the evolution of the energy asset portfolio he contributed to building and managing.
Jesse holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan.
Director, Business Development
Joe began his career with American Electric Power (AEP) as a mechanical engineer in the Resource Planning organization and has served in several positions of increasing responsibility in AEP’s Finance, Regulatory Services, Engineering Services, and Project Management organizations. Joe spent the majority of his career within the integrated utility supporting major generation projects, including capital project screening and business case development, engineering and design, planning and scheduling, construction, commissioning, and regulatory approval.
Joe joined AEP OnSite Partners in 2017 as the Director of Business Development, where he works directly with customers to deliver energy solutions based upon market knowledge, innovative application of technology and deal-structuring capabilities. AEP OnSite Partners targets opportunities in distributed solar, energy storage, peaking generation, combined heat and power, and other energy solutions that create value for our customers.
Joe holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton, a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Master of Business and Administration with a concentration in Finance from The Ohio State University. Joe is a registered Professional Engineer and Project Management Professional.
Director, Business Development
Peter has over 10 years of experience in the energy industry and currently manages project development and due diligence activities for project acquisitions across the U.S. Previously, he focused on project valuation and strategic analytics for customer solutions.
Prior to joining AEP, Peter was with Navigant Consulting’s energy practice managing policy strategy and engineering analysis for energy efficiency and renewable energy programs at state level and at the US Department of Energy. Peter has authored federal energy rule makings and published manufacturing research for NREL. Peter’s experience spans the energy efficiency, solar, fuel cell, and energy storage industries, focused on providing innovative customer solutions. Peter began his career with Black & Decker in their Engineering Leadership Development Program and spent several years designing nickel cadmium and lithium ion batteries for DEWALT cordless power tools.
Peter is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and is trained in Six Sigma and Lean principals, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration, both from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Juan Alvarez, Director
Director, Business Development
As the Director of Business Development for AEP OnSite Partners, Juan is responsible for the development and execution of customer-centric energy asset investment opportunities with a primary focus on developing energy asset investments in the northeast region of the U.S.
Juan brings over 20 years of business development and project finance experience in the energy sector. He has worked for solar energy players such as Sharp Electronics, BP Solar International, SunEdison, and Nautilus Solar Energy in various roles focused on the North American and European markets. In his previous positions at BMR Energy LLC and Belectric, Inc., Juan managed business development and commercial project origination activities for Latin America and the Caribbean.
In addition to his solar energy career, Juan was employed by Rolls-Royce Power Ventures where he developed cogeneration projects in Europe and Latin America.
Juan holds a Masters of Finance and Investments from George Washington University and a Bachelor of International Studies/Business from American University.
Director, Business Development
As the Director of Business Development for AEP OnSite Partners, Steve works with customers to identify and implement energy solutions that create value.
Steve has over 20 years of business development, project finance and asset acquisition experience in the energy sector. He has led the development for a wide range of energy assets including, solar, combined heat and power, and biogas projects. Steve has also worked in international energy markets including the United Kingdom, China, Australia and Brazil.
Steve holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Dayton and also holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from the University of Dayton.
Director, Project Execution
Joe leads the team responsible for executing AEP OnSite Partners’ behind-the-meter, asset-based sustainability and resiliency projects in order to deliver safe, cost-effective, and timely projects that meet or exceed project objectives. This includes strategic procurement activities, and management of contracts and vendors.
Joe brings more than 15 years of engineering, construction, commissioning, project management and contract management experience with him upon joining AEP OnSite Partners in 2021, having previously held roles of increasing responsibility in AEP’s Transmission, Nuclear Generation, and Fossil & Hydro Generation business units, as well as with a large electrical contractor. He also spent time in AEP’s Commercial Operations organization, optimizing operation of AEP’s generation fleet on a day-ahead and further basis.
Joe holds a Master of Business Administration degree from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Cincinnati. He is a certified Project Management Professional.
